The Vision for Our Future Family Compound
We’re building our dream life in real time. Each home on the property will have its own name and feel like stepping into a different world.
Our home will be named Copper Quill. It’s a nod to both the copper roof of the house and part of a bird, a quill. Our home will also feature a bar called the Franklin Farmacy — a nod to our last name and the vintage apothecary feel we love. Our house will sit between my parents’ and in-laws’ homes.
I’m most excited about our community building, Ember Hall. This space is going to be the glue of our compound. It will have two guest bedrooms, a commercial kitchen and a space large enough to host family gatherings. I can already picture slow Sunday mornings with coffee brewing, food spread across the kitchen island, and everyone gathered together for the day.
I have a vision of cut flower gardens themed for each home, hydroponic towers to grow leafy vegetables and strawberries, a vegetable garden that will produce enough vegetables for the whole compound and an orchard to keep our fruit cravings satisfied.
Further down the road, I hope to build a large greenhouse to produce even more seedlings, house our citrus trees and have a conservatory for slow Saturday mornings drinking coffee. One day, I hope to build a farm stand to give others access to homegrown fruits, vegetables, jams, sourdough breads, and desserts.
The Willow Watch might end up being one of my favorite parts of the property. We have a 40 foot storage container that we’re currently using as rooms for our animals and other storage as we work on building Three Feathers Ranch. Once we move into the compound, we’ll eventually place it in the middle of a group of willows and transform it into half garden shed, half fort.
We’re excited to share every project, gathering, and in-between moment along the way
