Cancun Travel Journal
July 9–12, 2026
From July 9–12, 2026, I traveled to Cancun, Mexico with a group of nine incredible people to celebrate one of my dearest friends before her wedding. We stayed at The Grand at Moon Palace, and it turned out to be the perfect backdrop for a weekend full of laughter, sunshine, and lifelong memories.
The resort exceeded every expectation I had for an all-inclusive vacation. From the beautiful spa and endless pool options to the incredible restaurants, every detail made it easy to relax and enjoy the trip.
The weather reminded me a lot of southern Oklahoma—hot, humid, and interrupted by the occasional rain shower—but the cool pools and ocean breeze made it the perfect escape.
Before the trip, I was excited to celebrate my sweet friend as she stepped into her next chapter, but I was also a little nervous. I only knew the bride and would be spending four days with seven people I’d never met before. Within a few hours, those nerves disappeared. They couldn’t have been kinder, and I left feeling grateful to have met such wonderful people.
The Journey
Flying out of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport was surprisingly easy. I walked straight to a TSA agent and made it through security in about five minutes—a welcome surprise compared to past trips.
The flight to Cancun was just under three hours, and as we began our descent over the turquoise water, vacation mode officially set in.
Only about fifteen minutes after leaving the airport, we pulled into Moon Palace, and I immediately knew we were somewhere special.
Day One
Walking into the lobby was the perfect first impression. Gorgeous light fixtures hung overhead, marble floors stretched throughout the lobby, and we were greeted with mimosas while checking in before being escorted to our rooms by golf cart.
After unpacking, we headed straight to the pool for a few relaxing hours before getting ready for our first dinner together.
Each evening had its own theme, making the trip even more fun.
Night one was “Send Nudes,” with everyone dressed in shades from the neutral color palette. We enjoyed dinner at JC Steakhouse before spending the evening getting to know one another and celebrating our bride.
I’ll always remember: Meeting everyone for the first time and realizing how quickly strangers can become friends.
Day Two
We started the morning with breakfast at The Grand Buffet. Between the made-to-order omelet station, fresh pastries, tropical fruit, and a mimosa and Bloody Mary bar, it was the perfect way to begin the day.
After breakfast, we spent the morning at the spa. Most of us enjoyed massages while a few opted for facials before we all reunited at the pool for another relaxing afternoon.
That evening’s theme was “Girls Gone Wild,” and animal print was the dress code.
After dinner at the hibachi restaurant, we ended the night dancing together at Noir Night Club inside the resort. Watching everyone sing along to their favorite songs and celebrate our bride may have been my favorite memory of the entire trip.
I’ll always remember: Laughing until our faces hurt on the dance floor.
Day Three
After a late night, we embraced a slower pace.
Most of the day was spent floating in the pool before making our way to the resort’s water park for a few trips around the lazy river and down the waterslides.
Our final evening together was themed “Final Fiesta.” We wore bright, colorful outfits, enjoyed dinner at the Italian restaurant, picked up a few souvenirs, and soaked in every last moment before packing our suitcases for the trip home.
I’ll always remember: Wanting just one more evening together before the trip ended.
Day Four
Our final morning started with breakfast at the buffet one last time. This time I discovered the fresh homemade corn tortilla station that I somehow missed earlier in the trip, and it ended up being one of my favorite breakfasts of the weekend.
Before long, it was time to head back to the airport.
Over four days in Cancun, I celebrated one of my oldest friends, met seven incredible individuals, and made memories I’ll always smile about.
Some trips are about checking destinations off a bucket list.
This one was about celebrating friendship.
Four days of sunshine, good food, and laughter reminded me that some of life’s best memories are made simply by saying yes to spending time together.
